Sheila Gerke
Safety Environmental Manager, Jebro


Sheila Gerke has nearly 20 years in the combined fields of HR, Safety and Environmental. From 1998 to 2015 (17 years), Sheila was Human Resources / Safety Director at Sioux City’s Missouri Valley Steel. As a staff of one, Sheila was responsible for all HR and Safety functions of the local division. In 2015, Sheila joined Jebro Incorporated as their Safety / Environmental Resource Manager. Since joining Jebro, Sheila has continued her expertise in the safety field and adopted new skills managing environmental regulations in Jebro’s several states of operation including Iowa, South Dakota, Texas, Nebraska and Wyoming.


Sheila's certifications include OSHA 10-Hour, OSHA 30-Hour, Safety Director certification, Qualified Individual certification, Instructor Development certificate. In 2015, Sheila received her Advanced Safety Certificate. In 2016, Sheila achieved her PHR (Professional Human Resource) certificate.


Sheila is a member of Iowa-Illinois Safety Council and Siouxland SHRM where she is a board member. She resides outside Lawton, IA where she is also involved in a farm operation.

 

 


AJ Hanscom
Risk Manager, IBC

 

AJ has spent the last ten years in safety and business management. He joined IBC’s risk management department in December of 2017.

 

 


Russell Perry
Iowa OSHA

 

Russell Perry is employed by the State of Iowa as a Safety and Health Consultant.  Russell is a retired Army Officer who worked full time with the Iowa National Guard for 31 years.  He has extensive experience in Aviation and Safety, having served in a variety of positions with the National Guard to include Supervisory Aircraft Pilot, Safety and Occupational Health Manager, and Director of Army Aviation and Safety.  Russell is a rated helicopter and fixed wing pilot, and is a combat veteran with service in Afghanistan.  He holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Drake University.

 

Sarah Davy
Preventive Health Manager, IBC


Sarah attended Morningside College, graduating in 2014 with a degree in Corporate Communications and Marketing. Sarah works as the Preventive Health Manager at IBC to lead and offer a variety of worksite wellness services including preventive health screenings, wellness coaching, health education and health initiative consulting. Sarah is a Wellcoaches® Certified Health and Wellness Coach and a Certified Fitness Nutrition Specialist .

 

 

 

Mike Maas
President of M.C. Maas Safety Mgmt


Mike Maas, CSP, is the President of M.C. Maas Safety Mgmt.  His consulting firm partners with companies to help them develop industry leading Health and Safety Programs and manage Workers Compensations Costs.  Having 20 years’ experience as a Safety Professional with industry leaders such as Intel Corporation, Mortenson Construction, Andersen Windows and CF Industries, he has the experience and proven results to help companies achieve their Health & Safety Goals.  Mike is a Certified Safety Professional and holds a Master’s Degree in Health & Safety from the University of Minnesota Duluth.

Illinois native, moved to Iowa in 1993; background in retail management; 20 years experience in the commercial construction industry; former chair – Sioux City Effective Public Policy Committee; graduate of the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy; 11 + years as a Woodbury County reserve deputy sheriff; husband; father of two sons; soon-to-be-grandfather; motorcycle enthusiast (1984 Yamaha Virago XV1000); dog lover (two lab-Aussie mixes, ‘Daisy’ and ‘Briggs’); active in a local church.

Greg Vecchi

Former FBI Agent

 

 

Gregory M. Vecchi, Ph.D., retired from the FBI in February 2014 after 29 years of combined service in the military and as a federal agent. During his career, Dr. Vecchi investigated Russian organized crime, international drug trafficking, international and domestic terrorism, and violent crime. Dr. Vecchi was formerly the Chief of the FBI’s legendary Behavioral Science Unit and an FBI crisis and hostage negotiator.

 

Dr. Vecchi is an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice at Missouri Western State University (MWSU), where he teaches law enforcement topics in criminal justice at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Dr. Vecchi is an instructor at the MWSU Law Enforcement Academy, where he teaches Tactical Communication, Dealing with Aggressive Behavior, Communication Obstacles and Dealing with Death. Dr. Vecchi has been designated by the Missouri Police officer Standards and Training (POST) office as the sole subject matter expert (SME) in these topics for all law enforcement academies in the State of Missouri. Dr. Vecchi also conducts behavior-based research, training, and consultation in behavioral analysis, crisis communication, conflict resolution, interviewing, and threat assessment, via his company, Vecchi Group International, LLC. Dr. Vecchi is published in many of these areas and he travels around the world to deliver consultation and training solutions.

 

Dr. Vecchi has special expertise in organizational behavior as it relates to deconfliction, leadership, and team-building. Dr. Vecchi currently assists leaders at IBM and Johnson Controls with threat assessments of employees and outsiders with regard to workplace violence issues. Dr. Vecchi has trained numerous Chinese business executives in Beijing, Nanjing, and Shanghai in high-stakes business negotiation and persuasion techniques in furtherance of acquisitions of other organizations. He was recently appointed as an Honorary Visiting Fellow of the Hong Kong Police College, where he trains officers in conflict resolution, hostage negotiation, and behavioral analysis. Dr. Vecchi has consulted with the Toronto Raptors NBA Team where he led the development of strategies for reducing costs associated with multimillion-dollar contracts for recruiting and trading talent. Dr. Vecchi is currently an active law enforcement negotiator with the Clinton County, Missouri Sheriff’s Office, where he recently provided the strategy that led to the resolution of a prison riot at a maximum-security prison, as well as personally negotiating the successful resolution of two barricaded suicide incidents.

 

Adam Lathrop
Executive Director, Iowa Illinois Safety Council

 

Adam Lathrop is the President/Executive Director of the Iowa Illinois Safety Council. Adam has been with the Iowa Illinois Safety Council for 3 years, and prior to that he was the program manager for several nutrition programs in the Des Moines area including Meals on Wheels. Adam has a passion for helping others whether it be older adults to remain active in their homes, or in his work with the safety council helping employers and employees develop safe and healthy practices. Adam attended Iowa State University for his Undergraduate Degree and received his Master of Business Administration Degree from Drake University in Des Moines. Adam is a native of Hinton Iowa, and currently resides in Des Moines.

 

 


Tim Saulsbury

MSPT, DPT, Physical Therapy Specialists, PC


Tim graduated from Buena Vista in 1985 with a BS in Biology. He then earned his Masters in Physical Therapy from the University of South Dakota in 1995 and in 2012 he received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy. In 2000, he and Kevin Poss opened Physical Therapy Specialists PC. Dr. Saulsbury specializes in orthopedic and industrial physical therapy. He is certified in performing functional capacity evaluations, trigger point dry needling and has extensive experience in Pre-Employment screenings and job site analysis. He received his Industrial Health Certification in 2016.  Tim is experienced in Blankenship and XRTS FC Systems for Workers Compensation.  Tim is a lifelong resident of Sioux City and is married to Maria. Together they have four children; James, Charlie, Michael and Delaney.

Candy Klingensmith is employed with Knife River Midwest as their Safety / HR Manager. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. Candy has been with Knife River for 10 years, working the first 5 years as a safety and environmental manager, 4 years as a safety manager, and 1 year as a safety and HR manager. Candy is a member of Women’s Power Lunch Committee and on the safety committee for APAI. Candy resides in Sioux City, IA with her husband Jeff Klingensmith and two children, Beau (15) and Brooke (12) and enjoys spending time with her family in her free time.


 

 

 


Tyler Silverthorn
Environmental Specialist II


Tyler Silverthorn is an Environmental Specialist II with four years of experience at Impact7G. Tyler graduated from Iowa State University in May 2015 with a B.S. in Forestry, Ecosystem Management Option. Tyler works on a variety of projects including Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessment (ESAs),

Lead-Based Paint (LBP) and Asbestos Containing Material (ACM) inspections, environmental drilling and sampling, and Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) sampling. Tyler also has experience in developing a variety of maps using ArcMap and AutoCAD.

In addition to client-based consultation services, Tyler manages Impact7G’s Radiological Licensing, X-Ray Fluorescence Analyzer (XRF) maintenance, and LBP training program. Tyler is also a volunteer firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for Le Mars Fire-Rescue.

Aaron Iacino is the Risk Manager for Innovative Business Consultants. Aaron has been in the health, safety, and security business for 22 years. He helps our clients get in compliance with governmental regulations and shores up their security protocols. He also helps them avoid incidents and build safe workplace cultures where production can thrive.
